With its 65lb capacity and tough pneumatic wheels, the Earthway 2130 Commercial spreader is ideal for a number of applications: ice melt, dry sand, rock salt, seed mulch; though not fertilizer. Great for spreading sand or salt on icy sidewalks and driveways.

At the time that I bought mine, Amazon had the best overall price for the Earthway 2130. It was easily assembled (around 10 minutes). It is VERY lightweight. I have to say that Earthway is really cleaning up on this spreader as there is no way in hell that it costs over $50 to make–if that. If this is their “commercial” spreader then I’d hate to see their “regular” one. My 3-year old could push this baby. My thoughts lean towards heft equalling quality in many products, and on that basis, this doesn’t compute.

That being said (I have had it for 4 months now); thus far it has worked like a charm. Spreads both salt and sand easily – which wasn’t the case when I’d previously  tried to use regular garden spreaders to do the task. Corrosion of course is my biggest worry with all its metal parts, and that probably explains the 3 year lifespan.

The Saltdogg definitely does the job well. I use it mainly for spreading sand and let me tell you that the sand has to be completely dry or it won’t work and I mean completely dry. I’ve experienced no problems of any kind when it comes to HCL flakes and pellets. The assembly was easy and it seems rugged enough, although I’m not sure how long the cover will last. I bought the stainless steel model for longevity – but there is actually so little metal to this I think I could just as easily have bought the carbon Steel model and save myself 220 dollars. But I do recommend this product – it works better than an ATV or a tailgate spreader – much easier to clean and load etc. I have a 1000 feet of driveway and it gets done in a snap.

I reckon I’ve been through about one spreader a year from the local big box stores. Either the plastic tires dont grip, or if I’ve been lucky enough to find a local spreader with pneumatic tires it has started rusting withon one season. So I finally decided to search for a better spreader and found the Buyers SaltDogg WB100B.

It arrived in a box with some holes in it but everything inside was in perfect condition. It took about 30 minutes to put together. I took it outside and it would barely move, and then it locked up and the wheels refused to turn. It took me about an hour to determine that a washer was in the wrong location from the factory, enabling a disc on the axle that mates with a sprocket on the spinner to wobble and bind. I put the washer in the right place and now everything is snug and working fine. I also had to tighten the bolts for the spreader adjustment flaps which were real loose from the factory.

The tires are absolutely heavy duty. The bolts are all stainless steel. It looks as if the axle disc is molded aluminum. The stirrer is a stainless steel cotter pin. The bin is plastic and has a painted metal screen to prevent debris from entering spinner mechanism. A rain cover is included.

Cons: Nearly gave it 4 stars for the poor assembly from factory but it is so great an improvement from anything I have had before with no clear design flaws that will keep it at 5 stars. It does squeak a little with use (from that same axle disc/sprocket) but maybe this will go away the more that I use it. It does not close as tightly as I’d like, and when I adjusted it to close more tightly, it now does not open all the way, but still plenty enough for my purpose.

I read reviews on all the commercial grade spreaders and ended up choosing the Earthway 2150 Brodcast Spreader. The plastic wheeled Scotts spreaders work OK but they just don’t last long enough. You can end up paying $400 or $500 for a commercial spreader which I think is quite high for the average homeowner. I paid $180 for the Earthway 2150 and consider it to be great value. It has a heavy duty frame and large pneumatic tires which are its major selling points, at least as far as I’m concerned. It rolls easily over my uneven yard and spreads evenly. I needed to open the setting a little more for grass seed than what was recommended to it keep from clogging with “larger” seeds such as fescue. This is a great spreader for the average user and I’ve no doubt that it will last for many years.

The Earthway 2150 is both well designed and well constructed. The screen at the top of the hopper prevents clumps of material from getting to the stirrer at the bottom. Multiple slots in the bottom help to further minimize clogging. The pneumatic wheels, despite having plastic hubs, are so much better than the molded plastic ones you find on cheaper units. I’m tall so the adjustable handle eliminates backaches caused by having to bend over to push the spreader. The hopper holds a 40 pound bag of Ironite easily so I have no doubts as to the manufacturers claims of a 50 pound capacity..

ASSEMBLY: The instructions are good — there was only one area that I found a bit confusing. The one pointer I would give them is to include a “required tools” list. As some other reviewers have pointed out, figuring out which of the multitude of similar length bolts to use in each step is a little bit daunting — having a 6″ rule whilst assembling is helpful. I completed the assembly in around an hour, but admit that having an engineering background was an advantage. The application adjustment uses a plastic/metal wing nut which had one of its ears broken off on arrival so I need to call and request a replacement.
Earthway provide a useful “cheat sheet” that gives the information you need to determine the spreader setting based on coverage information on the fertilizer bag. Definitley pay attention to the coverage width information especially if you are applying something with a larger grain size like Ironite — I learned this the expensive way.

The Earthway 2150 Broadcast Spreader is more expensive than some other spreaders, but “You get what you pay for.” And it is Made in America.

Highly recommended.

If you’re anything like me, then you’ve probably scoured the Internet looking for that perfect salt spreader. You’ve also given up shopping at the local hardware stores because they all carry the same junk that you can find for $15 at your neighbor’s garbage sale. Well, as far as I’m concerned, the search is over. After giving the Earthway 2050PD what I would call an aggressive test, I can now say that I’m throughly excited to own it. In addition to discovering a spreader that consistently distributes material evenly (which you think should be a given when it comes to spreaders), the most exciting thing to talk about is the 10 inch pneumatic wheels. I was releived to see how easily they rolled over the bumps in my yard without even coming close to spilling any fertilizer. The deep tread tires are tubeless and can handle up to 30psi, which is the rating that can be found on most wheel barrow tires. Impressive! The rain/dust cover and edge guards are also nice to have and are durable. I’d say the frame work seems a bit light for a hopper than can hold 80lbs so I’d be hesitant to call it heavy-duty, but at the same time O do beleive that it is durable. If I have anything bordering on negative to say, it would be about the enclosed gear box. Not the gears mind you, just the box casing. The box slides a bit along the axle and seems to be a component that the manufacturer didn’t give much thought to. Is there something wrong? No, but it just seems as if the casing is cheap when compared to the rest of the spreader. However, the box casing won’t stop me from saying that I honestly can’t wait until I get to use the spreader again this season and to salt my sidewalks in the winter.
